Martin Kaymer and Lee WestwoodMartin Kaymer and Lee Westwood

  • Is it so strange to see Lee Westwood in the tail positions in Abu Dhabi? There seems to a post according to the number 1 in the world, and yet there is a very close precedent …
  • The Englishman carded a 75-shots on Friday in Abu Dhabi. And in all of 2010 only gave two worst results. One was Saturday at the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, 76 strokes. But do not forget: Saturday on a U.S. Open monster field as the Californian, which kept the wind blow … The other result than 75 in all of 2010 gave him the best of Lee in Abu Dhabi 2010. Precisely in Abu Dhabi. Was 78 on Friday and missed the cut. Curious.
  • Is this field gives you bad then? Does the Abu Dhabi Golf Club does not come from the eyes to Number 1? Well does not seem to be necessarily so, if you stick your second harvest here in 2008 (in 2006, 2007 and 2009 did not play). What then? Golf does not provide mathematical explanations for each of their situations, but perhaps it should be noted that Westwood gets something rusty or unprepared. Probably also responds to a strategy adopted: he ends his set-up at the Emirates. Read the rest of this entry »

Make Way for The Chancellor of Abu Dhabi

martin kaymer
Martin Kaymer (-18) is the undisputed leader of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship HSBC after the third day. The German will start tomorrow with a tasty margin of five strokes over Rory McIlroy. Just a couple of things that prevent us from securing strongly that the last day will be a walk down the Champs Elysees to the Teutonic …

One: if someone is able to string a birdie after another and finished the tournament with a scandal is Vueltona McIlroy. Bad enemy to anyone.

Two: a gray day will need to have good Kaymer in the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. Makes ‘sixty-odd’ like hotcakes. Today ended on the 18th hole with a kind of nervous smile, shy, as if to say I do not really know why, but I get around this field.

If any of these two factors in the equation, the trophy and we can go poking into the pocket of German.

When Everything Looks Rosy (II)

pablo larrazabal

We continue with the individual review of each of the members of the Navy to reappear in the Desert Tour.

Pablo Larrazabal. After the explosion of 2008 with his victory in France, has consolidated its figure golfer in the circuit in 2009 and 2010. Or what is the same, and very importantly, has proven himself and the world that her visceral aggression and not fireworks. No basis. In the last months of 2010 the game was richer than that dictated the results. A more attractive bullet in the chamber of Spanish golf.

Paul Martin. It is the most filmed of this ‘elite group’ of the Navy. Coming off a victory in South Africa. We see him with options to get into the fight for victory Sunday almost every week, at any tournament, even the highest level. He has understood that the correct acceptance of errors in the field is the key to its evolution now.

Jose Manuel Lara. After hard time passing them in a couple of stages of the 2010 season, his reunion with the victory in Austria should be a balm for the 2011. More than a balm, a spur. Somehow, the recipe is clearer out of the quagmire that will raise the sport, especially this point in his career to escape the complications and technical hieroglyphics and take the field with only a few clear ideas in my head.

When Everything Looks Rosy (I)

when everything looks rosy
Debuts tomorrow in Abu Dhabi the bulk of the Spanish Armada in the 2011 season. Gone are some intense long vacation and return to work and strenuous workouts. Each, in their winter quarters (pun intended), has outlined strategies and schedules, projected targets and has sought its particular ‘Philosopher’s Stone golf polishing defects or errors. Now, when everything looks pink that colors almost always restart, is a good time to review our golf’s elite …

This is a discussion of expectations, as reflected in very specific notes and based on their past experiences, their evolution, their ‘confessions’ on foot putting green and the journalist’s own observation.

Miguel Angel Jimenez. He served 47 years on 5 January, but he has already proven to be a mistake to look your ID with skepticism. His line of work and motivation has not changed. The important thing is that, precisely, he does not feel that there are still given everything. Sideways, of course, looks more to the majors, especially Masters and British. That itself would be an auction round. If anything, even more carefully look after their stretching and maintenance work in the gym.
