The general principle of golf is like playing the ball to rest, play the field as it is and if not so, then what is more fair. The golf courses of the Community of Madrid will enable refuge areas for certain animal species, released copies of birds, squirrels, dormice and bats, placed nest boxes for insectivorous birds and adapt their ponds for amphibians, among other initiatives. The aim is to convert what the Deputy Minister of Environment and Madrid Regional Planning, Manuel Beltran, who today signed a cooperation agreement with the presidents of five golf courses, called “biodiversity reserves”.

The agreement will launch a pilot project called Biogolf, which seeks to take advantage of golf courses and natural areas and promote good environmental practices and efficient management of such facilities.

The first five fields in joining this initiative are the La Forge (San Lorenzo de El Escorial), Lomas-Bosque (Villaviciosa de Odon), National Golf Centre (Madrid), El Encín (Alcalá de Henares) and Aranjuez.

It will be an experience of three months, depending on their results, shall extend to all the clubs in Madrid with the ultimate goal of granting a new environmental certification or seal.
